(2) Your Domain Name can be any one of the following Top Level Domains (TLDs) - .co.uk - .me.uk, - .org.uk, - .com, - .net, - .org, - .biz, - .info, - .mobi, - .name, - .eu, - .us, the choice is yours but usually .co.uk or .com. In the case of .co.uk TLD registration is valid for 1 year. Recommended IP is 1 & 1. There are three top Search Engines, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's 'BING', (although as from the end of July 2009 Yahoo and Microsoft have merged and effectively combined and is now number two). Ask is about third but all the other Search Engines are a good way behind. The menu layout can be changed from a vertical one (such as this one) or horizontal.

Domain name registration is best completed yourself since your account has to be, for obvious reasons, in your name. There're very reasonably priced (.co.uk currently about £3.00 a year, but check with the IP for any price changes) and easy to do. I'll guide you through it. If your buying a Hosting package one or more domains usually comes free with the package or for the first year or two anyway. For a Linux based starter hosting package costs about £5.00 plus tax a month. Looks fair enough. Pick a domain URL name in the Domain Name Checker above and see if its available.

HINT Try to pick one that is close to what you do. For example, if your selling gold rings don't choose joeblogs.co.uk, choose something like joegoldrings.co.uk. Anything that helps to describe what you do to the Search Engines right there at the very start is a bonus towards your SEO achievement.

(4) Bear in mind that these prices are all one-off payments (for the website plus the SEO that is) and might sound a lot when all added up but is an extremely valuable investment. See the Home page of this website about Return of Investment (ROI) from Neostead SEO. Once set up there are only, in the main, content updates and occasional alterations which you can either do yourself or have an optional maintenance program. If you want an analogy, how about this: if you bought yourself a beautiful brand new car but to make it run you have to fit the wheels first. Which is the equivalent to:- You've got yourself a new website but to make it run properly you have to optimize it.

Guarantees?

Website templates are pretty straight forward, and you can price them accordingly. SEO on the other hand is not. It depends on forces beyond our control, namely Search Engines. They are tweaking the algorithms all the time, daily. They sometimes give hints about what or why they change, and they might tell you there's an update, but on the whole most of it is kept pretty close to the chest. So you're left with working it out for yourself. Your website might be in a very competitive market place in which certain key phrases are very common, one million or more in the SERP's report, so to get to the first page in SERP's can take longer. Also new sites with Google are sometimes subject to a time delay of up to 6 months or more.

Above all I want to be fair, because that's how I am, to you and also to me because you can spend a lot of time and effort on these things. So, although there are factors you cannot control and its impossable to make guarantees, (see here an important SERP's note on this very subject in the Glossary page). If, however, after the 3 months of the 3 month option or after 6 months for the 6 month options are up and your site is still not within the first three pages of SERP's, monitoring will go on and if needed tweaks and adjustments will be made but no more fees will be paid. The point being that after all the work that has been done over the 3 or 6 months and depending on what market your site is in your site might not get to a prominent position within that time period - but it will, given time (Google's time delay is just one factor). SEO is a long term strategy and different from PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising which my be quicker but your perpetually paying for your position for the life of the campaign. Once your position is achieved and nothing in the Search Engines, or other external factors changes, it should, more or less, stay in that position. Reports will be sent to you each month via e-mail in a CSV format until we get there. Does that sound fair? Let me know!

(6) Once you have achieved a good position in SERP's there is always and depending on the type of competition your business is in improvements and adjustments needed. To the SEO or to the web pages themselves. Now you can, at this stage, do it all yourself, also there is a CMS (Content Management System) software package that I can direct you to. Or you can opt for an ongoing retainer (P.O.A.) or pay by the hour as and when the need is required.
